Elijah'sLaw
NYC Ordinance 2025

Elijah’s Law is critical legislation focused on strengthening food allergy safety in childcare settings. First enacted in New York, it has now been adopted in six states and reinforced through two city ordinances, expanding protections for children across multiple regions. Named in honor of Elijah Silvera, who tragically lost his life after an allergic reaction in a childcare center, the law establishes clear safety standards. These include mandatory allergy training for childcare staff, improved communication of allergy information, and individualized emergency care plans for children with diagnosed food allergies.
The continued expansion of Elijah’s Law reflects a growing national commitment to ensuring that children with food allergies are protected, prepared for, and supported in early childhood environments.
